Oredle — the daily Minecraft mining puzzle
A new mine every day, and everyone on Earth digs the same one. Read the ore-sense numbers, spend your pickaxe wisely, and reach bedrock — then share the shape of your shaft. No download, no sign-in.
How to play Oredle
- 1Read the surface. The grass row is already open and every tile shows a number — that is your ore sense.
- 2Know what a number means. A number counts the ore and chests in the THREE tiles directly below it. A 3 means all three are loot. A 0 means the rock below is barren.
- 3Dig a connected tunnel. You may only break a tile touching open space, so your mine grows downward as one shaft. Legal tiles pulse green.
- 4Spend pickaxe wisely. Every dig costs durability: 1 in stone, 2 in deepslate, 3 in the deep rock. You start with 34 and chests give you 7 back.
- 5Avoid the lava. Lava costs 8 durability and breaks your lava-free bonus. It is the one thing the numbers never point at, so watch your budget.
- 6Reach bedrock. Row 12 triples your entire haul, retroactively. Then post your shaft and see who read the mine better.
Ore values
| Ore | Value | Found in rows |
|---|---|---|
| Coal | 15 | 1-8 |
| Iron | 35 | 1-12 |
| Redstone | 60 | 5-12 |
| Gold | 100 | 5-12 |
| Diamond | 250 | 9-12 |
Rock hardness & depth bonus
| Layer | Rows | Cost | Haul x |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stone | 1-4 | 1 | 1.0x |
| Deepslate | 5-8 | 2 | 1.2-1.5x |
| Hard deepslate | 9-11 | 3 | 2.0-2.4x |
| Bedrock | 12 | 3 | 3.0x |
A straight dive to bedrock costs exactly 24 pickaxe of your 34 — so the whole game is deciding how much of the remaining 10 to spend probing, and where.
Strategy tips
- Dive first, branch second. The depth multiplier re-prices every ore you already banked, so getting to bedrock early makes your whole run worth more.
- A 0 is information, not disappointment — it clears three tiles at once and lets you tunnel through cheaply.
- Two adjacent numbers triangulate a column. If a tile reads 1 and its neighbour reads 0, you know exactly which of the three tiles below holds the ore.
- Chests are worth hunting: +7 durability is roughly two extra deep digs, and the numbers point at chests just like ore.
- Diamonds only spawn in rows 9-12 and are worth 250 — more than sixteen coal. One well-read deep tile can decide the day.
- Beating par is the achievable brag. You do not need to top the leaderboard to have something worth posting.
The board rolls at midnight UTC. Your streak counts days you played — not days you won — and you get one free streak freeze a month, so one missed day will not wipe it.
Frequently asked questions
What is Oredle?
Oredle is a free daily Minecraft mining puzzle — the Minecraft answer to Wordle. Every day a new mine is generated and everyone on Earth plays the identical board. You read ore-sense numbers to work out where the ore is hidden, spend a limited pickaxe digging a tunnel, and try to reach bedrock. When your run ends you get a spoiler-free grid of your shaft to share.
How do the numbers work?
Every open tile shows a number counting the ore and chests in the three tiles directly below it (down-left, down, down-right). A 3 means all three below are loot. A 0 means all three are barren rock. Comparing two neighbouring numbers lets you pin down exactly which column holds the ore.
Is Oredle free?
Yes. Oredle is completely free, with no download, no installation and no account. Open minespecs.com/play/oredle and press play.
How is my score calculated?
Your haul is the total value of the ore you mined (coal 15, iron 35, redstone 60, gold 100, diamond 250). That haul is then multiplied by how deep you reached — up to 3x at bedrock — and the multiplier applies retroactively to everything you already collected. Reaching bedrock adds 500, and finishing without touching lava adds 250.
Does everyone get the same mine?
Yes. The board is generated from the UTC day number, so a player in Auckland and a player in Los Angeles are provably on the same mine at the same moment. The board rolls over at midnight UTC.
Can I play more than once a day?
Your first completed run each day is the one that scores, counts for your streak and produces a shareable grid. After that you can replay the same board in practice mode as often as you like, and you can play any past puzzle from the archive.
How does the streak work?
Your streak counts days you PLAYED, not days you won — Oredle has a real failure chance and a streak that a bad board could zero would punish you for showing up. You also get one automatic streak freeze per month, so a single missed day will not wipe your progress.
What do the share squares mean?
Green means you dug there and hit ore or a chest, yellow means you dug there and found bare rock, and black means you never touched it. The grid shows the shape of YOUR tunnel, so it spoils nothing for anyone who has not played yet — and two players on the same board still produce completely different shapes.
Is Oredle an official Minecraft game?
No. Oredle is a free fan-made game created by MineSpecs. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or associated with Mojang Studios or Microsoft; 'Minecraft' is a trademark of Mojang Synergies AB.
