I Like Vanilla
by What42
I Like Vanilla is for players who have tried shaderpacks, found them beautiful, and quietly turned them off because the game stopped feeling like their game. What42's approach is additive: better light, better water, better foliage movement, and absolutely no reinterpretation of the art direction. Light enough to leave on permanently. Published under What42's own shader licence, so download it from the official page.
How to install I Like Vanilla
- 1Install a shader loader for Minecraft 1.12.2 – 26.2 — Iris (pairs with Sodium) or OptiFine.I Like Vanilla is a shaderpack, so it needs a loader to run.
- 2Download the I Like Vanilla
.zipfrom the button above — keep it zipped. What42’s licence doesn’t permit re-hosting, so that button takes you to the official modrinth.com page — always the newest build, straight from the author. - 3Drop the .zip into your
.minecraft/shaderpacksfolder (%appdata%\.minecraft\shaderpackson Windows,~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/shaderpackson macOS). - 4Launch the game, open Options → Video Settings → Shaders, and select I Like Vanilla.
Performance & what to expect
I Like Vanilla is rated low performance impact. It is comfortable on entry-level dedicated GPUs at a normal render distance. It renders atmosphere and shadows. The look is vanilla like and fantasy.
