How to Make Torch in Minecraft
Top row: Coal. Bottom row: Stick.
What you need
- Coal×1
- Stick×1
Worth knowing
- Coal on top of a stick makes four torches; charcoal works exactly the same as coal here.
- Fits the 2x2 inventory grid, so you can make light without a crafting table.
- A torch gives light level 14, and in the Overworld and the End hostile mobs need block light 0 to spawn, so anywhere the torchlight reaches is spawn-proof; the Nether's limit is 15, so torches do not stop spawns there.
- The shape matters but its position does not — this works in any corner of the grid, as long as the arrangement is the same.
