Nostalgia is exactly what the name promises: RRe36 went back to what shaderpacks felt like when they first went viral — heavy godrays, warm haze, that particular sunset — and rebuilt it properly, without the bugs and the frame drops. It scratches an itch nothing else quite reaches if you were around for the first wave. All Rights Reserved, so grab it from RRe36's official page.

How to install Nostalgia Shader

  1. 1Install a shader loader for Minecraft 1.16 – 1.21.4 Iris (pairs with Sodium) or OptiFine.Nostalgia Shader is a shaderpack, so it needs a loader to run.
  2. 2Download the Nostalgia Shader .zip from the button above — keep it zipped. RRe36’s licence doesn’t permit re-hosting, so that button takes you to the official modrinth.com page — always the newest build, straight from the author.
  3. 3Drop the .zip into your .minecraft/shaderpacks folder (%appdata%\.minecraft\shaderpacks on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/shaderpacks on macOS).
  4. 4Launch the game, open Options → Video Settings → Shaders, and select Nostalgia Shader.

Performance & what to expect

Nostalgia Shader is rated medium performance impact. It wants a mid-range dedicated GPU. Drop render distance a few chunks if you fall below 60 FPS. It renders atmosphere, bloom and shadows. The look is fantasy and vanilla like.
