How to Get a Trident (and the Best Enchantments)
The Trident is a throwable weapon that lets you fly in the rain. Here's how to get one and enchant it.
The Trident is one of the coolest weapons in the game — you can throw it, and with the right enchant, ride it through storms. There's only one way to get it.
Only Drowned drop Tridents
Tridents can't be crafted. They only drop from Drowned — zombie-like mobs that spawn in oceans and rivers — and only from Drowned that spawn holding a trident. That's a fairly low chance, so it can take a while.
How to farm them
- Explore oceans and rivers at night, or in deep dark water.
- Kill any Drowned you see holding a trident — those are the ones that can drop it.
- Looting on your sword raises the drop chance.
- For serious farming, build a Drowned farm (a dark water spawning platform that funnels them to you).
The best enchantments
A trident can take one of two movement enchants (they don't combine):
- Loyalty — the trident flies back to your hand after you throw it. Best for combat.
- Riptide — launches you with the trident when it's raining or you're in water. Great for mobility, but only works when wet.
Add these too:
- Channeling — summons lightning on a hit during a thunderstorm.
- Impaling — extra damage to aquatic mobs.
- Unbreaking + Mending — durability and self-repair.
TipLoyalty is the everyday pick; Riptide is a blast for rainy-day travel. You can keep two tridents with different setups.
