Potion Brewing: Every Recipe You Actually Need
Brewing looks fiddly but follows a simple pattern. Here are the essential potions and how to make them.
Every potion starts the same way, then branches based on one ingredient. Learn the pattern and you'll never need to memorise a chart.
The base every potion needs
- 1.Build a Brewing Stand (1 blaze rod + 3 cobblestone).
- 2.Fill glass bottles with water.
- 3.Add Nether Wart — this makes an Awkward Potion, the base for almost everything.
Core recipes (add to an Awkward Potion)
- Speed — Sugar
- Strength — Blaze Powder
- Healing — Glistering Melon Slice
- Regeneration — Ghast Tear
- Fire Resistance — Magma Cream
- Night Vision — Golden Carrot
- Water Breathing — Pufferfish
- Leaping — Rabbit's Foot
- Poison / Harming — Spider Eye
Modifiers (add to a finished potion)
- Redstone Dust — extends the duration.
- Glowstone Dust — boosts the strength (tier II).
- Gunpowder — turns it into a Splash Potion you can throw.
- Dragon's Breath — turns a splash potion into a Lingering Potion (leaves a cloud).
- Fermented Spider Eye — *corrupts* a potion into its opposite (e.g., Healing becomes Harming, Night Vision becomes Invisibility).
TipFire Resistance is the single most useful potion — brew a batch before any Nether trip or Netherite run.
The must-haves for adventuring: Fire Resistance, Healing, Strength, and Water Breathing. Keep a stocked brewing stand and you'll walk into any fight prepared.
