Neon City Block

A corner of a city that gave up on the sun. Two slabs of black stone stand on a wet street, the front one cantilevering two blocks out over the pavement so the whole ground floor sits in permanent shade, and everything that is not stone is dark glass, patinated copper or neon. Three moves carry it: the overhang, the billboard hanging clear over the crossing, and a lit glass skybridge crossing a three-wide alley you can barely see into. Build it once and you have a module — mirror it, shuffle the sign colours, and you have a district.

Building it

Each stage names the layers it covers. Drag the slider on the model to that layer and you are looking at exactly what the stage describes.

1.Wet street, kerbs and standing water

Layers 1–2

Flood the whole 30x30 footprint with blackstone at y=0, then lay polished blackstone over the two carriageways: x 0-6 running the full depth, z 0-5 running the full width. One layer op at y=0 does everything else — light grey wool dashes down both centrelines, hoppers sunk as storm drains at the kerb, tuff grime through the alley slot at z 17-19, and water blocks sitting flush with the road surface. Those flush water blocks are the whole trick: they mirror every sign you hang above them. Pavements go in at y=1 as slabs, blackstone on the outer kerb row and polished blackstone behind it, dropped flat across the alley mouth so you can walk in.

2.Podium, shopfronts and awnings

Layers 2–8

The corner tower's base is one solid mass of deepslate tiles, x 7-18 by z 6-16, seven high. Cut plain glass shopfronts three blocks tall into both street faces, then run a single row of shroomlight one block behind the glass — the light bleeds through and the ground floor glows without a visible lamp anywhere. Cut copper slabs project over the pavement at y=5 as awnings, wrapping the corner in one continuous line. Finish the podium with a red wool band along its very top row at y=7. It is the last bright thing you see before the mass above swallows the light, and it draws the eye straight along the pavement.

3.The cantilever

Layers 9–18

Everything from y=8 upward steps two blocks out over the street: polished blackstone from x=5 to 18 and z=4 to 16, ten storeys of it, unsupported. Band the bottom row at y=8 in cut copper on both outward faces — that copper line is the shadow gap, and it is what makes the overhang read as deliberate rather than as a mistake. Above it the facade is three horizontal runs, each a single box op straight along the face: sea lantern at y=10, dark tinted glass at y=13-14, sea lantern again at y=16. Cap the whole mass with a full copper deck at y=17 and a slab parapet at y=18 so the setback above has something to sit behind.

4.Neon: blade, billboard and underline

Layers 8–18

Two signs carry the build. The vertical blade hangs on the west face at x=4 — red wool, ten tall and four wide, with a sea lantern core inset one block on every side and cut copper caps top and bottom. The billboard is the bigger move: a slab of blackstone at z=2-3 hanging clear over the crossing, faced in blue wool, cored in sea lantern, then struck through with a red wool bar so it reads as a logo rather than a lit rectangle. A copper gantry at y=10 runs beneath it. Both signs are bolted straight over the window bands, which is exactly what real cities do and exactly what makes the facade look inhabited.

5.Second tower, back block and the alley

Layers 2–21

The second tower is plain blackstone, x 7-18 by z 20-29, nineteen high, deliberately duller so the corner tower keeps winning. Two weathered copper stripes run its full street face with a tinted glass slot between them and one sea lantern line cutting across at y=10. The back block fills x 19-29 up to y=14 as a flat backdrop; clear a slot through it at z 17-19 to y=8 and the alley runs three wide off the street, past both towers, then under a ceiling and into a dead end. Dress it with copper pipes climbing the walls, an aircon box, a shroomlight over a door and one small red blade at the far end.

6.Skybridge, roofscape and crown

Layers 13–30

The bridge crosses the alley at y=12: a sea lantern deck with tinted glass walls and a cut copper slab roof, so the only bright object in the canyon floats four blocks off the ground. The corner tower then steps back to x 7-16 for six more storeys and again to a small crown pushed toward the street corner — never concentric, or the top goes dead. Copper deck, one copper post, a magma block as the aircraft warning light and a lightning rod at y=29. Two layer ops scatter lift heads, duct runs, vent banks and a copper water tank across the low roof, and a rooftop billboard on masts finishes the second tower.
